202206: MILNE BAY PROVINCE -TROBIRAND ISLAND TOUR

Trobriand Island is accessible by direct daily flights from Port Moresby and Alotau-Mainland. And you travel by passenger ship from Alotau to Trobriand Island. Lousia airstrip on Trobriand Island has been closed and yet to be reopened. At this time of writing, airstrip on Trobriand Island is closed.

Trobriand Island affectionately known as “Island of Love” and famous for its Yam festival.

The main Kiriwina Island can be toured by vehicle in a day with visits to villages and other sites.

Lousia is the island capital and access by boats from outer islands and the capital town of Alotau.

Day 01:

  • Fly Port Moresby to Alotau.

  • Arrive Gurney Airport. Meet and transfer to Alotau marine wharf.

  • Board the regular passenger transport ship to travel over night to Trobriand Island.

  • Passenger ship departs late evening from the wharf.

  • Travel on board the passenger ship overnight on board to Trobriand Island.

Day 02:

  • Early morning arrive Trobriand Island wharf and transfer by vehicle to Omarakana village to see the village people and their life style. A traditional dance included. Walk around the village and meet the people and see their yam storage huts and return to Omarakana village.

  • Overnight stay at Omarakana village Hut. Dinner is cooked and served.

Day 03:

  • Full day tour other villages by foot walk around the villages and return to base village.

Day 04:

  • Morning vehicle tour drive around the island visiting different villages. Afternoon board the passenger ship and travel overnight back to Alotau Town.

Day 05:

  • Disembark early morning at Alotau and transfer to Alotau Airport: Fly to Port Moresby.
